The Americanism and Government Test program is a joint venture and partnership with the Ohio American Legion Auxiliary, a cosponsor of the program. The test consists of fifty (50) True/False, multiple choice, and fill-in the blank questions. Every student taking the test also writes a 300 word essay on the same topic.
Through a number of judging levels in the state of Ohio to select Post, County, and District winners, the initial field of 65,000 students is narrowed to 84 district winners, whose winning test papers are submitted to a State Judging Committee for this program. District winners are submitted to a State Judging Committee to select the State Award winners. Congratulations Andrew, Caiden, Kelly and Emily on your advancement to the County level!
Maplewood School's inaugural Turkey Trot took place at SHS stadium on November 9. All students participated, and the inclusive event invited parents and the wider community. Following the run, INEOS generously provided snacks, and the Kona Ice truck offered refreshing treats for the young participants, creating a fun and active community experience.

Shawnee Township Fire Department provided Fire Safety instruction to all Elmwood students. Students practiced how to stop, drop and roll and how to crawl low to the ground in a smoke filled house. In addition, students learned the importance of changing batteries in their smoke detectors, experienced how a firefighter would look and sound while in full gear, and had their picture taken dressed as a future Shawnee firefighter. Thank you to all the firefighters that supported our children on this fun day. We look forward to it every year!

Shawnee Band of One performs in the Buckeye Invitational
Day number four of our district-wide Red Ribbon Week was “put a lid on drugs”. Students were allowed to wear hats and they were asked to bring in canned food for the West Ohio Food Bank. Our students donated over 1,300 canned food items between the four buildings. When weighed at the food bank, it totaled 1,348 pounds of food! Pictured is staff from the West Ohio Food Bank with our Mental Health Coordinator Leigh Kempton. High School Principal Dylan Dronberger helped Mrs. Kempton with loading up and taking the food. Thanks to the generosity of our students and families, two vehicles were needed to transport the donations. We would like to say a huge thank you to our Shawnee families! This was a true testament to the amazing students and families we have in our district.
There is a scheduled 2-hour delay for students WEDNESDAY, October 25, 2023 for teacher in-service.
