Several great learning experiences have taken place outside of our school building walls over the last few weeks:
The 8th grade class visited the Armstrong Space Museum to build connections with the novel, October Sky, which was read in ELA classes.
The 6th grade class spent a few days at Camp Crosley in North Webster, Indiana continuing the tradition of outdoor education, team building and learning new things about themselves and their classmates.
7th and 8th grade students in the Broadcasting, Hello Hair, and Hot Off the Press elective classes spent an afternoon at Apollo Career Center learning how their current interests and passions can be taken to the next level through their programs and eventually become a career. The Broadcasting and Hot Off the Press students spent time with the Multimedia Technology students learning Photoshop, making graphic art and memes, and even doing a mock podcast . The Hello Hair students engaged in various stations facilitated by the Cosmetology and Spa & Esthetics Technology programs learning about all of the skill sets that are required in the beauty industry.
A group of 14 STEM-minded 7th and 8th grade students spent the day at Ohio State Lima with other junior high students in the area participating in sessions centered around robotics, magnetism, engineering and more.
The Who Done It?! (forensic science) elective class put their critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills to the test at a local escape room. All passed the test and made it back to school for dismissal!
The rescheduled College Credit Plus meeting is tonight at 6pm in Room 160 at Shawnee High School. The presentation with audio can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XgeEDpByAo4osa6CoZAj_V-xXs8UXvfC/view

Out if an abundance of caution, due to a benzene gas leak at the Lima refinery, Shawnee Schools will be dismissing students as soon as possible. Students will be dismissed on their normal afternoon bus routes. Elmwood and Maplewood students will be taken to Maplewood. Updates will be sent as soon as more information is available. This is currently not a danger to the community.
